Project update - January 2009
Overhead Walkway
We are currently fitting extra steelwork above the Pollit and Wigzell mill engine to allow safe access to the overhead shafting, pulley and bearings. This has required a design that does not alter irreversibly the original steelwork in the engine house (we cannot drill holes etc.) This design has had to be approved by the planning and museum authorities. The decking, handrails and companionway access have yet to be made but we are fitting it in between regular maintenance and steaming days.
Wagon Boiler
Another project which is going along at a much slower pace is to build a setting for the wagon boiler. This is quite a rare museum artefact and has never had adequate interpretation. Having cleaned it up we intend to build a typical cut away setting to show the furnace and flue arrangements. This display will be between the two boilers in the boiler house.
